Derek, I love the term "display dump," just never heard it before. Do you REALLY take the book with you to shows as a reference for dealers?! Man, now that is cool, and a very good idea. I could see it being very handy, for example, when I go to the Glendale Toy Show. There's this old lady that sells toys there... she drives Rob and me crazy, because she always has Mego stuff, and she CLAIMS to have RC Batman and RM Robin mint on Kresge cards, but she's NOT SURE if those are the packages. Nor does she remember 'where she put them.' Sheesh! I'll bring the book to the next show now. Thanks.

You've got it, Ben! No offense was inteded with "display dump", mind you. I worked in bookstore retail through college, so I still retain a bit of that profession's lingo. A display dump is slang for any point of purchase waterfall display of product. My "Man Cave" is graced with more than on display dump - at one time I even used them as a low cost alternative to bookshelves! :) I'd get one of those and place laminated posters on each side and line up my boxed Megos in the middle. Ooh, how I want one of these!

As to why these posters have never surfaced - no idea. If they are like some of the other POP bonuses I saw in retail it's possible they were printed on cheap and thin paper, which is prone to tearing if you so much as sneeze on it, but that is just wild speculation. I still search for them high and low, and intend to frame them when I find them. They have to be out there somewhere. I now take your book with me when I go to shows so I can point out to them exactly what I am looking for, but nada has turned up as yet.

P.S. "Eye teeth" are the canines, or as my sister calls them "Your Vampire fangs". That's right - I'd rather have difficulty tearing meat from the bone than miss having one of these :)

Derek, right on! You're talking about the 1980 "Poster/Sweepstakes" promotion Mego did, right? I cannot figure out why no collectors have ever seen either the DC or the Marvel poster, let alone the POP "display dump" (nice, Derek. Nice!).

Surely SOME kids got the posters, right? If so, why haven't any any survived? Do you think they're out there and no one realizes what they are?

I love the displays - I'd give my eye teeth for one of "Free Poster" display dumps in Ben's book.

It certainly isn't weird to me! Seriously, I just love the promotional materials. I think the fact that such things were not intended as "collectibles" makes them particularly desirable. I agree with you 100%.
