As a child I always liked Aquaman because there was no character quite like him. His costume had this unique color scheme that at times screamed loud, yet he could simaltaneously blend so modestly when placed against other heroes. I liked that. There was a quiet pride about him. He didn't need the giant emblems or loud capes to take center stage. All he needed was his fins and the rest was up to you! He was also the only Mego hero that could fight and actually defeat JAWS. Such great memories but alas my original Aquaman took an interesting journey into childhood oblivion.

After having one too many water adventures, his shorts began to wear out, so I started one of many journey's towards customizing him into other characters. For a time he was Steve Rogers (until Hutch came along with that Kirby-like face). After getting upstaged there, I used him as Johnny Storm with a simple switch of the FF costume from Reed Richards. His final transformation was rather...permanent. I had developed a great love for the Vision and was enchanted with the origin which suggested his connection with the original Human Torch (from the WWII Invaders). Well... what is a boy to do? I inexplicably painted his face red, eye's pitch black, hair green (don't ask) and took an old Tarzan flesh tone body suit and proceeded to color it with the cosmetics of the Vision's outfit. Shazams' boots and a cape later I had myself a somewhat rough, but inspired, Vision figure for the 70's. I recollected Aquaman in his original costume years later and currently have him in a nice reproduction box, but you never forget the first time. A great character, if not a tad under appreciated. I think that was another quality about Mego that I always liked - They were never predictable. You never knew what the next set of characters were going to be. There was a loving diversity to each line that no action figure line as enjoyed since.

Amen, Rob!

I have one of the 'Frankencard' (Kitchen Sink) Aquaman cards and four of the (six) box variations. I need those two boxes, including the uber-rare "Solid" box to complete that set. I also need the three, "2nd Issue" cards (©1976, ©1979 and the rare, "Generic" Red card) to complete THAT set. I once owned the Kresge Aquaman pictured above, and I really need to get another one!
